tip no. 42: take advantage of Piso-fare/Php 999 promos!

I received a text message earlier today saying that Cebu Pacific Air is once again promoting cheaper fares through its domestic seat sale from July 24 to 29, 2008. The travel period is anywhere from August 15 to November 30, 2008. If you’re nursing a broken heart, what better way to get away from it all but to travel to our beautiful islands and even abroad!

Aside from local flights, they also have cheap international fares which are available all-year round. One can go to Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Macau, for as low as Php 1,499. It still doesn’t include taxes though. Seats are rather limited so the earlier you book your flight, the better. How I wish they offer the same thing for trips to the U.S. Anyhow, get your passport ready! :)

tip no. 23: go shopping and put your bargaining skills to the test :)

Forget about your broken heart for a while and take out your most comfortable shoes. Let’s burn some hard earned money! Spend time with yourself, spend some for yourself! :)

If you’re not very particular about brands, and are the type of person whose heart would skip a beat upon hearing the words “dirt cheap”, then Divisoria may just be your (shopping) heaven on earth. Getting there is fairly easy although admittedly, braving the crowded streets of Tabora and Juan Luna isn’t. Taking public transportation is very much recommended, for as long as you can still carry your bags by the time that you’re done. Otherwise, bring your own car but you’ll need lots of luck searching for a very good parking space. Personally, I have always ridden a Divisoria-bound jeepney which you can take anywhere along Taft Avenue, but one can also take the LRT and alight at the Doroteo Jose station. You would still have to ride a jeep though. :P Read the rest of this entry »

tip no. 12: gather your friends for a photo shoot :)

In today’s age of digital photography and lomography, a camera has become the ultimate must-have in every single event and gathering.  In the past year, I’ve seen a lot of friends who have gone crazy over DSLRs and lomo cams, and their purchases of related equipment and paraphernalia just goes on and on.   So much so that I’m beginning to believe that the Pinoy’s love for pictures has even surpassed his original passion for singing.  Anyway, instead of moping around all day thinking about the what-ifs and the what-could-have-beens, you might as well take advantage of this fact. :)

I strongly suggest that you take a break, go out, and make a trip to some known and not-so-known places and pretend that you’re on your very own photo shoot.  Go all out on props if you wish.  It doesn’t matter if you’re the photographer or the model, what’s important is that you get to spend some time outside, do something new, and breathe fresher air with your friends.

The La Mesa Ecopark is a good place to start.  Read the rest of this entry »

tip no. 11: fulfill a childhood dream :)

The tip above was inspired by a friend who had just started to enjoy her singlehood. ;)

Being able to see the beauty of Sagada was one of her lifelong dreams. 20 years in the making, she says. Her fondness for the place began in 5th grade. Hence, I feel blessed to have had the opportunity of going there with her and the rest of our friends last weekend, courtesy of R.A.C.E. (Radical Adventure Concepts and Events) who organizes tours like this throughout the year. The timing was just perfect, a pleasant distraction when she needed it the most. :D

tip no. 8: release your anger at the infamous Tacsiyapo wall

I’ve been hearing about the Tacsiyapo wall since 2006. It was featured a couple of times on television already, and I immediately found the concept of releasing anger through breaking things quite interesting. As luck would have it, the opportunity to go there finally came during the weekend of the Hot Air Balloon Festival a few months ago. Back then, I was already done nursing my heart, but I still had a lot of friends who were trying to do the same.

The name of the place is Isdaan. It’s a floating restaurant and mini theme park in one. You won’t miss it if you’re on your way to Baguio as it’s situated along the highway of Gerona, Tarlac. The giant Mayan/Astek-themed sculptures on the left side of the road (from Manila) are pretty visible during the day (and night, I suppose) which makes it a very trusty landmark. tip no. 7: retreat to a place where there’s no electricity ;)

Apart from the usual summer hot spots like Boracay, Puerto Galera, Cebu, and Palawan, there are amazing beaches in Zambales that are definitely worth your time. If you’re the type who wants to be one with nature in the closest possible way and you’re okay with being away from the comforts of your home, then a trip to Anawangin and Capones Island will not disappoint you. And if you had just broken up with someone, going to a place where you can relax and have quite time for yourself can do wonders for you. :)

It’s back to basics. A break from the usual beach trip that can go a little loud at night. So what if there were no rooms, no cellphone signal, and no electricity? We had the best food and of course, great company. The night was spent bonding over liquor, playing a few games, sharing stories, and participating in healthy man vs. woman debates. And what better way to wrap it up by lying down on the sand, underneath the stars, errr, full moon. :) Read the rest of this entry »
