wheels..

Now that I am alloting a rather significant portion of my salary for insurance and investments, I don’t have the means to buy a car.  Wahhh.. How I wish cars were priced like my motorcyles, I could probably buy two or three right now.  Just kidding.  But seriously, it’s much cheaper.  Cars require so much accessories and are very high maintenance, while a motorcycle only needs gas and a motorcycle jack? :P

My dream car remains a dream.  I wish there was some raffle I could join then maybe I could win it rather than pay for it. hehe.

online shopping

Internet business is booming.  There is no question about it.  A lot of Multiply accounts have been created specifically for selling items.  Ebay is a popular choice and Amazon as well.  A lot of websites have permeated the web, and some of them are focusing on a particular niche.  Electronics is one such example.

Circuit City is one of them, but since they have closed, there is a need to scout for more options.  There are a lot of great deals around, one just has to have the eye to spot them.  Online shopping is in for its convenience and it is definitely here to stay.

missing home

I texted my mom earlier and asked her if I could go home again this weekend.  I really miss the food at home.  I’m getting tired of canteed food already.  Our kitchen at the apartment is not really conducive for cooking so I end up not eating at all. :P

Anyway, I rarely go to Batangas these days since our house is being renovated. Yup, it never ends.  My mother spends her weekdays looking for different materials (i.e., glass tile, paints, brushes) and a lot has changed since the renovation started.  It’s a mess right now. Hehe.

Things have slowed down a bit as there are only about two workers doing all the work right now.  I’m so excited to see it once everything’s finished.  It’ll feel as if I’m walking into a different house. :P

so far, so good…

I have decided to purchase a life insurance policy with a critical illness benefit.  I don’t have a life insurance yet, which is kinda ironic since I work in that industry.  Hehe.  I guess I wasn’t able to afford it then. Anyway, the policy amount isn’t much since I specified a premium, but then better than nothing, right?

I must say, I really bought if for the critical illness portion which covers me against 35 illnesses including stroke and different kinds of cancer.  If and when (God forbid) I get diagnosed with something like that, I can get the full face amount which I can use for treatments.

I was presented with a quote for PHP 250,000, PHP 1,000,000 and PHP 2,000,000.  The last two are quite expensive already, but then I didn’t want to choose the PHP 250,000 because it wouldn’t help much in ten, fifteen years.  I chose the PHP 1M and I would have to pay the premium for 10 years.

At the moment, I already have two policies, but are really meant for investments.  Hmmm.. I only have my emergency and travel fund to take care of. So far, so good! :)

the clock is ticking

I can’t believe I’m already attending weddings and children’s parties instead of the usual birthday celebration.  Pretty soon I’ll be present in one baby shower after another.  Am I supposed to be panicking already?  In a few months, I’ll be leaving the 20’s behind.  Wah, I don’t feel so young anymore. :(

I’m giving myself a few years to catch up in terms of my financial health.  I’ve been enjoying the fruits of my labor way too much.  It’s about time I get serious about this.  I guess purchasing a  book on personal finance is a start. :P

how much is my life worth?

I attended a product launch today covering critical illness.  For a limited time, they are offering policies with coverage for 35 illnesses which include cancer, stroke, heart ailments, and other life-threatening diseases.  One of its strong points is that the full face amount is given to the assured the moment he is diagnosed with the sickness.  This enables the bearer the ability to fund all his succeeding treatments in order for him to have a better chance at survival.

There are exclusions, of course, like any other insurance policy, but this protection is better than anything.  I believe it covers chemotherapy and other treatments.  I wonder if Mesothelioma treatment is covered.   It’s caused by asbestos.  According to the presentation, the causes of the illness are to be considered also.
